Gate 35: Change - Progress

Gate 35

The feeling of hunger. Insatiable. Creeping into your bones, consuming you from the inside out. 

The hunger is impenetrable. No matter what you eat. You’re left unsatisfied. Your appetite moves onto other things, a doomscrolling session, binging all the books, video games. All in hopes to satisfy the beast living within. 

When that doesn’t work you move onto friendships or relationships. Seeking out new connection to satisfy the itch. Eventually that stops working too.

This hunger is starving for purpose. And your purpose is to live a life in the name of love. Give unconditionally. Without expecting to receive. Not begrudgingly. This hunger monster is not asking to receive. It’s asking to give. 

Trigger Warning: Content from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.This was my childhood church and to this day I still have many songs and teachings that pop into my head even though I’m not an active participant in the church offerings.

The song that came to mind as I was writing the above portion was this children’s hymn from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is called “Give, Said the Little Stream.”

The Hunger Monster lurks in the shadows of 35. Never satisfied. Always seeking to fill itself up. Like No Face from spirited away. He would give in order to receive. No matter how much he gave and received and consumed he was ceaseless in his pursuit to eat more. 

The only thing that he felt would fill him up is Kashira, the little girl trapped in the spirit world by her only desire to return her parents to human form. Her pure pursuit in life of living in the name of love for her parents filled her with such purpose that she was seemingly delectable to No Face.

Because the other movie characters were only seeking money and more vain things in their life, they were easily manipulated by the gold trap No Face offered. ***eh eh*** SNAP!!!!!!! Chomp! Gobble Slurp Gobble… BUUUUUUUURRRRRRPPPP! “I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!!!” 

No Face is the Hunger Monster. He will always want more. What he learns is a life lived serving and caring for the ones who saw him for exactly as he was and still loved him and accepted him was the only thing that filled him up. 

What does a life lived in the name of love look like to you? 

This is the question that can lead us to adventure then eventually we reach utter freedom of boundlessness. 

Jesus taught us to be like the little stream. Continuously flowing and giving and watch as the beauty of the Earth evolves at our every bend. Just like we need that little stream to feed and water us, the Earth needs us. We feed and water the Earth. What are we feeding her? 

You’re being called to change. I’m being called to change. 

The hunger is the key. And what we’ve been filling up on lately isn’t working anymore. Our souls are calling for a higher source of nutrient.

The Control Factor

When we try to control the flow of a river it looks artificial. Carving through the mountain instead of flowing with it. Being dammed up in certain spots as we place barriers to guide the water to our whims. Guide it so we can use it. But when the river is allowed the freedom to move how it may, it carves natural and beautiful paths through the ground. Eventually the river breaks down the soil and the rock into deep canyons as it carries the sediment down its ever flowing journey. 

The same goes for us and creation. When we try to force the creation out of us instead of opening up our channels of creation then it doesn’t seem to flow right. Everything we create has a flavor of our light. The lense of life that runs through us taints the waters that flow out of us. That tainting is the perfect essence for someone else to learn and grow from. Even if that creation isn’t meant for someone else, it is meant for you. For the river to flow through you and change your internal landscape much like an actual river changes a mountain. 

Give it a direction. Just point it there and let it flow. The creation will take the path of least resistance as long as we don’t try to manipulate what and how it comes out. That is alchemy. Because it comes from the Source of All That Is. The Divine runs through us from the top to the bottom allowing all the internal sediment of shit we are processing to alchemize and turn into something beautiful. It is a great release. Once the creation is out there then our bodies, minds, and souls can relax a little bit more. The release allows more room for more creation. More creation gives others access to us through our essence so they too can learn to transmute their own shit through your example. 

Create messy. It doesn’t matter how it comes out. Just release expectations, release control. Let it flow. Let yourself flow. In all your essence. Let yourself taint the waters that run through you. Maybe then the alchemization process won’t be as painful. Maybe then we won’t hang onto what is meant to be let go of.
